Artist George E. Miller created “A Bright Idea” for the Educating Children of Color Conference in Colorado Springs, CO. The theme of the conference was “Don’t Get Mad Get Knowledge (camouflaged into the artwork). Also hidden in the artwork are the messages: “Control Your Emotions, Check Your Attitude, Apply Yourself, Expand Your Mind, Think, Try, Study and Aim High” Ask your students to find all 9 hidden messages. Have your students answer the following questions: What does the light symbolize in the picture? What do you imagine the Teacher is discussing with her student? What do you think the phrase “Don’t Get Mad; Get Knowledge” means?
